Media plays an important role in Berlin's cultural ecomomy,
particularly because it is the public and creative face of many other skilled sectors, ranging from finance to the arts, and because it is the distribution network that transmits Berlin culture to the world. For these reasons, media could easily be merged with art and culture, because so much of its activity is inherently creative and about culture. Yet, media as its own industry is worth taking a look at, partly because it operates as a hybrid–being creative, yet applying its creativity to other industries. Public relations, broadcasting, editing, and other communications services are all instrumental in the success of translating messages, ideas, and products into marketable forms.
